Divorce Was in Our Future—Until God Intervened

Viviendo primero en unión libre, teniendo dos hijos sin aún casarnos. Vivíamos en pecado, guiados solo por nuestros propios pensamientos, acciones, palabras, razonamientos, costumbres y siendo sabios en nuestra propia opinión. Sin ningún entendimiento de Dios, y mucho menos dirección de Él.

Llevábamos nuestra relación según nuestros propios deseos y lo que nos pareciera correcto, hasta el punto de llegar a decir que era mejor separarnos cuando enfrentábamos problemas, especialmente económicos y de rechazo.

Pero cuando Dios nos llamó la atención, respondimos a Su llamado, aunque con muchas dificultades. Aun así, decidimos permanecer en Su Palabra y creerle. Entonces pudimos entender que Él es quien fortalece nuestro matrimonio y quien puede librarnos de todo mal.

Ahora, la palabra “divorcio” ya no está en nuestro vocabulario.

Estos fueron los versículos que nos ayudaron en este proceso.

Proverbios 14:1 — RVR1960 La mujer sabia edifica su casa; Mas la necia con sus manos la derriba.

Génesis 2:24 — RVR1960 Por tanto, dejará el hombre a su padre y a su madre, y se unirá a su mujer, y serán una sola carne.

Mateo 19:4-6 — RVR1960 4 Él, respondiendo, les dijo: ¿No habéis leído que el que los hizo al principio, varón y hembra los hizo, 5 y dijo: Por esto el hombre dejará padre y madre, y se unirá a su mujer, y los dos serán una sola carne? 6 Así que no son ya más dos, sino una sola carne; por tanto, lo que Dios juntó, no lo separe el hombre.

We first lived together without being married, having two children before our wedding. We were living in sin, guided only by our own thoughts, actions, words, reasoning, customs, and considering ourselves wise in our own opinion. We had no understanding of God, and even less direction from Him.

We carried our relationship according to our own desires and what seemed right to us, to the point of saying it might be better to separate when we faced problems, especially financial issues and feelings of rejection.

But when God drew our attention, we responded to His call, though with many difficulties. Even so, we decided to remain in His Word and to trust Him. We then understood that He is the one who strengthens our marriage and can deliver us from all evil.

Now, the word “divorce” is no longer in our vocabulary.

These were the verses that helped us during this process.

Proverbs 14:1 — NKJV The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands.

Genesis 2:24 — NKJV Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

Matthew 19:4-6 — NKJV 4 And He answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ 5 and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?” 6 So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.
